STTC Sunday
Club League
How seeding
and player advance to next higher group is done
This
question comes up periodically as new players join STTC league so here's the
details. It all depends on how many enters and their club or USATT rating week
to week.
After the
deadline, players are seeded according to their rating then grouped-off to even
number of players as possible without creating disparity. Example; not having
one group with four players and another with seven.
All the
players are initially seeded according to their rating and grouped-off. Then,
players who won their respective groups in previous week are advanced to the
NEXT HIGHER group. This is easy but it
gets a little tricky when number of groups differ week to week and this happen
often. As an example, in previous week, there were three groups and this week,
there's four. The winner of Group B doesn't automatically move up to Group A.
The winner moves up to the next higher group this week depending on where his
or her seeding is in the initial seeding. The winner may be grouped in Group B within
the four groups because this week, more higher level players may have entered.
If the number of groups are the same,
the winner goes to Group A regardless of rating.
My formula
is based on fostering competition. This was the primary reason for offering
$100 to the winner of Group A, to recruit more high to mid level players to
reduce the large gap between Group A and B.
